Angie’s room was last renovated about 3 years ago when she was really into Paris, pink, black, and stripes. I don’t have a lot of pictures from that time, surprisingly, but it looked so absolutely cute. At least, we all thought so at the time.

She has grown so much in the last year, and so has her style. We found ourselves back to the drawing board some months ago when she asked for a room makeover for her birthday. The best part of it… I let her make most of the decisions. As always, I offered suggestions but allowed her to do the most difficult part of the design process: look for ideas that match your style and then show them to me. I highly recommend this approach unless you have a child with a desire to paint a room black with specks of blood, and a crucifix hanging upside down.

We started out by changing her bed and adding a nightstand for a more mature girl look. She did not want a daybed anymore and we were so lucky to find a twin bed from the same Pottery Barn collection that included her desk and dresser, both of which we kept.

She also asked for a comfy area to sit because she enjoys digital drawing and the desk is not always the most comfortable area, especially after spending hours attending zoom meetings during the day. I saw an ad for this hammock chair and she loved it. It has been such a hit, with everyone visiting her room to sit on it.

We also talked about an area for her books, which were previously stored on the desk hutch. We got rid of that one to open up the space. She loved some bookshelves with glass doors but they were too big. In order to save space we opted for a floating book shelf. Less things on the floor make cleaning so much easier.

The last touch were these eucalyptus wreaths we found on Etsy. So simple yet so nice.

Jorge made the room look amazing with a fresh coat of paint and a gorgeous window frame. He worked on the room all of her birthday weekend while we were away visiting my mom. Angie was so excited to see her room, and she has been in love ever since.

We are so happy to have made her dreams come true. Now, on to the next project. Follow me on Instagram for more details on which room we will be changing next.
