Christmas

2020 Christmas home tour

I absolutely love Christmas time. Well, who doesn’t! Even the Grinch could not resist. My favorite thing, though, is not the presents but rather the decorations. It reminds me of being a little girl and learning about the Christmas season. I was born in a country that, for the longest time, did not celebrate nor acknowledged Christmas. Putting up a tree and decorations was not acceptable and to this day it isn’t something a lot of people do. Without getting all emotional, I will say that Christmas brought incredible joy to my grandmother and I. The presents were always scarce but the decorations always made it out. They were old and the tree was falling apart, from being 30 years old, but it was still the most wonderful time of the year. Fast forward to today and Christmas time brings the same joy and enthusiasm for decorating. Maybe a little bit more every year, as I have more children.

Every bedroom I decorated this year has its own theme. The boys’ room was inspired by the Grinch and it’s so cute. Yoyi loved it and has been the best at not touching the decor. You can read all about that room in this post.

Angie’s room is her favorite, without a doubt, and it truly turned out exactly how she pictured it. With her newly remodeled bedroom, she no longer wanted the white Christmas tree with pink and black decor we did last year. Instead I upgraded the 4.5ft tree for a flocked 7ft tree that is amazing. I have never had a flocked tree before but I may be interested in more for next year. She wanted a woodland/white theme and I think we nailed it. With a flocked tree you do not need a lot of ornaments to make it look nice and full, which can help you save time and money.

I kept it very traditional in my room with a red and white theme. At one point, I thought about adding black accents but Angie didn’t agree, so it stayed red and white. I used my cashmere tree and quickly learned that I would need way more ornaments to make it look full. Several trips to Walmart later, here is the finished tree. For the rest of the room, I added red and white details including my naughty/nice throw pillows from last year and a Merry Christmas sign from Kirlands.

This room was perfect for our family pictures.

The rest of the house took the longest because we kept rearranging the furniture and moving the decorations. We had a lot of empty spaces and areas with a lot of decor so it was a challenge to even it out. I decided on two natural trees for downstairs as I love the smell and how nice they look. We added some lights, and by we I totally mean Jorge, and decided to leave it just like that despite Angie’s disapproval.

Because it was hard to make the train fit between the two trees, we decided to leave it on just one side and add our village to that tree. This decision was mainly made by Jorge, who was not happy with the prior placement. However, we just bought another train and may be extending the track to make it fit from one tree to the other. If we finally get it out of the box, I will update the pictures.

The nutcracker collection has been growing since I started 3-4 years ago and I love it. I dream of a nutcracker inspired Christmas tree.

For the dining room, since we re-homed our dining room table, I decided to invest on some small trees. The table alone was not enough to fill the space. This will be a great area for Santa to leave presents as we have an open space. I again decided against decoration for those trees as I really wanted to focus on the table holding the village, our advent calendar, and the stockings.

The last step of the decor was the stairs, and it was totally worth the wait. We used command strips to hold the garland and it was 10 times easier than my usual roll of tape. All the light makes my heart happy. Also a happy camper, Yoyi, who keeps turning off all the lights around the house so he can see the Christmas lights.
