Grinch inspired Christmas decor for the boys’ room

I love the Grinch and his humor. He is dark, soulless, and sarcastic. The kids really like him because he is green, funny, and looks like a fluffy cat. Now, I am not really sure where the inspiration came from but I knew early on that I wanted to decorate the boys’ room, and honor the green little friend and his growing heart.

The first step was to look for decor, which I found very little of. The only sheets I found that would fit their mattresses were a little out of my budget. The more I looked the more it seemed as if this was not an extremely popular character. Most of the items were either very expensive or handmade and also a little out of budget. So, here is a breakdown of how I made it happen without breaking the bank.

If you do not have a limited budget, may I suggest:

I found some similar sheets at Target and resized them to fit the crib mattress. With one twin sheet set I was able to make two crib sheets and two pillow covers. I bought two characters to add to their cribs for decoration.

The decoration for the dresser included books, small simple figurines, and a lot of trees. I found some scenes from the movie and added them to the back as well. After playing around with the decor for what seemed like 3 hours, we decided to place the figurines around the tree, like in a scene from the movie when all the whos sing together. Creating a small village would have been extremely cute but I was really afraid the kids would get ahold of the pieces and break them and get hurt.

Lastly I decided to add some fun phrases from the movie. I found a super cute font on Dafont.com and used it with the Cricut to make the words. I ended up making 4 different signs. Lastly, we made a weird looking frame, like those you could certainty find in a Whoville house, to help frame the phrases. The Cricut was a lifesaver when making all these projects.

I finished it all up by adding two small Christmas trees decorated with green, red, and blue ornaments.

The boys loved their room, and surprisingly listened to my entire talk about decoration vs. toy. They had so much fun exploring all the colors and finding little Grinch faces everywhere.
