Valentine’s day tree

I typically take all of my trees down by January 6 and don’t see them again until after Thanksgiving. This year, though, I have seen so many Valentine’s day inspired trees that I decided to give it a try. I was really nervous about creating this tree and even more so when I realized that finding ornaments at this point in the year is a real challenge. I was about to give up, but then I found a cute DIY channel on YouTube that gave me major inspiration. The theme: conversation hearts, the ornaments: dollar tree DIYs. As soon as I was able to get Angie on board, I got really motivated.

The first step was adding the tulle. We wanted to do pastel colors and my existing mesh did not really match. I decided on tulle, some of which I already had at home. Given that the colors were so light, it took several different colors for it to be noticeable on the surface of the tree.

Step two included the ornaments and big accents, which were a little challenging. Angie and I had to look through all of our ornament boxes to find colors that resembled pastel tones. In the absence of a lot, we decided to add white as well. We added some flower bouquets, which were made with dollar tree flowers and curly picks from Walmart.

Third step included the creation of the conversation hearts. We purchased 40 wooden hearts from Dollar Tree and Angie painted them with various pastel colors (yellow, pink, blue, teal, and purple). With the Cricut machine I cut some conversation words and phrases and adhered them to the front of the hearts.

The last step was the creation of a topper. We started with some pom-pom balls, made with leftover tulle, and wrapped those around the top of the tree. Then, added some of our conversation hearts by gluing them to wood sticks and placing them on the top.

As a last detail, Angie purchased a stuffed bear that really tied it together. We could not be happier with the end result which was both affordable and so cute.
